The first time Tom Shadyac and I met was about 17 years ago, and he was already a successful comedian and the youngest writer to have ever written for Bob Hope. The Falls Church native and graduate of Jeb Stuart High had just directed a little movie called “Ace Ventura.” He went on to direct a slew of Hollywood hits and earned tens of millions of dollars—and NEVER changed for the worse. I’ve talked to him many times since and I’m still tempted to say he hasn’t changed after seeing him again this week, but he’d disagree with me big time. Which is, in fact, the subject of his new documentary film called “I AM”
