If we’re lucky, critics get to see about 10 or 15 films a year that make them step back and say, “holy crap, that was different from the other 225 films I saw this past year. Excuse my indelicate description, but “Dumbstruck” was a “holy crap” moment for me.
The beautiful thing about a really great documentary is that it introduces you to people who are so special or unique or eccentric or memorable that even the greatest director could never cast the greatest actor to play them. It would seem fake or over the top.
“Dumbstruck” is cast with real people who have real lives and dreams. Some are talented, others not so much, but once you’ve gotten to know them, they’ve already stolen your heart.
Recently I spoke with director Mark Goffman about the film. Read my review/interview now at: Dumbstruck Review/Interview Here
