You’d be forgiven if you thought it was the title of an Adult Film, but, no – Hangin’ & Bangin’ is a streaming Rock talk show hosted by the drumming brothers Carmine Appice and Vinny Appice. Between the two of them, they have played with the biggest names in rock history.
So, a guy called Steve Love, head of a talent agency, got the idea to start a YouTube channel known as Artists On Lockdown which would give a voice to the countless touring musicians who were forced to chill at home during the pandemic. And don’t forget, a lot of these guys are hired hands who get paid to play – they don’t rely on recording royalties (many of them) to help them get through these times.
Along with show co-host Ron Onesti, the brothers Appice welcome well-known musicians and industry folks each week to talk about everything from touring secrets to backstage stories and lots of insider stuff that has had fans tuning in for almost one year.
The series just announced that it’s going into year two with the same line-up and the promise of more stories and guests and music talk. Not, by the way, limited to just drumming, even though Carmine (Vanilla Fudge, Rod Stewart, many others) and Vinny (Dio, Black Sabbath, many others) are known for banging the skins.
Can’t believe that Carmine is 74 years old! On his most recent video plugging the show, he had shorter, whiter hair – said he got tired of dying his hair, but dude looks GREAT! Vinny, by the way, is a youthful 63, too.
Each episode is LiveStreamed every Thursday night at 7pm Eastern | 6pm Central | 4pm Pacific The June 3rd episode marks the 52nd week and the guys promise special guests and surprises.
I am on my way now to look up old episodes as I had no idea until today that this show even existed!. Here’s the link to the show on Facebook and on YouTube. You can get the Podcasts on Apple, Spotify and others. Also, a Drum Wars Tour featuring the brothers is in the works – stay tuned.
Here’s Carmine from couple weeks ago settling the question once and for all: Is it “A-Piece” or is it “Ap-a-See?” Spoiler alert: It might be both.
