Yet another Home Invasion genre film, but if you love gore, and let’s be honest, a lot of us love graphic screen violence (though we strongly oppose any kind of real life violence), and whether it’s Tarantino, Carpenter or Craven, there is something cathartic about seeing a villain get the crap beaten out of him.
The new Canadian produced‘For The Sake of Vicious’ starts off by checking off all the usual home invasion boxes, but it’s final third is like Home alone if spurting blood and hammers going into eyeballs had been allowed.
Romina (Lora Burke) is a nurse just getting off her swing shift on Halloween night. Moments after getting back home, a seemingly crazy man attacks her, but explains once things have settled, that he means no harm to her, he needs her to save the life of a tied up man in her kitchen who he has beaten almost to death. He says the man raped his daughter, but things might be more complicated than that.
The actual plot never quite comes together smoothly, especially when the now trio of nurse and the two dudes are invaded by another set of bad guys – a bunch of them and all in masks and/or motorcycle helmets. They might be also trying to take down the same guy whose life was spared, only they aren’t discriminating-they’re going to kill as many people as possible.
And here’s where we get to the blood and gore and sometimes comically violent ass-kicking. Again, the narrative is fuzzy, but those of us who enjoy this kind of action can sit back and watch the slow start turn into a furious finale. It’s less than an hour and a half long. I’m not mad at it.
This is for certain viewers. You know who you are.
