‘Exorcist Vengeance’ Horror Review-Speak of the Bloody Devil

There will never be another ‘The Exorcist.’ The sides of the road are littered with crappy attempts to tap into the magic of the 1973 film that still scares audiences nearly half a century later.

Where the new ‘Exorcist Vengeance’ goes right is that it doesn’t try to re-make the original, even as it appropriates many tropes of the genre (rebellious Priest, young female possessed, etc.).  This movie doesn’t rely solely on the supernatural – there’s a murder mystery element that comes into play and helps elevate the movie to something you haven’t quite seen before.

The Executive Producer likens this film to Death Wish, and in one unmistakable way, he is right: the lead of the film, Robert Bronzi, is a dead ringer for the late Charles Bronson. It is uncanny. Bronzi’s acting chops are closer to Tommy Wiseau than Charlie Bronson’s, but Bronzi carries the weight. You might chuckle when the Hungarian born actor  speaks of the “Debil” or the good book “The Wible”, but this is the kind if film you can have fun with.

Bronzi is like a hit man for the Vatican – he’s the guy they call in when they need a demon’s ass kicked. When a well-to-do English family is terrorized by a demonic force that has people vomiting buckets of blood, among other things, the priest is called upon by Bishop Canelo to root out the evil, but soon realizes the solution to this mystery is tied to his own past. He must find the killer and stop the Devil’s hold on the family before it’s too late.

I watched the film with a snarky smile, I admit, but I stayed locked in to the story and thought it was a good example of the thing that it is, namely a B-movie with a good cast and plentiful blood and intense scenes.

Uncork’d will release the Millman Productions, Titan Global Entertainment and Proportion Productions  feature film on Digital and DVD Feb 8, 2022.
