Bottom Line: Chan fans will stand and cheer. If you only know the name and not the stunts, Ride On serves, in some ways, as a sort of greatest hits of Chan’s lengthy career—right down to the bloopers that run over the end credits.
Even the story within the movie seems somewhat autobiographical: Chan plays an aging stuntman, past his prime. At least he still has his old buddy—a stunt horse! When debt collectors try—and fail—to confiscate the horse, which obviously has great value, their failed moves are caught on camera and go viral
Furious, the debt collectors return, and we are off to the races. Lots of super-well choreographed stunt sequences that always mix comedy with action.
Chan has always been more Buster Keaton than Bruce Lee – but he’s the only guy who ever totally pulled off mixing the two. The lines on his face are starting to show, his gait is starting to slow, but Chan fans—this is what you expect.
