Despite the fact that the dialog is straight off a coffee mug or a social media meme, Fist of the Condor excels where it needs to: with kick ass fight choreography that is next level.
Star and producer Marko Zaror is as good or better as a martial artist today (ahem, Steven Segal, Chuck Norris) and his moves are almost balletic, except for the part where someone gets their ass kicked at the end of his grand battement.
The film starts with him on a mountain top looking over a valley as a voice over recounts the 16th century legend of a special manual on how to be, like, a super magical fighter. It’s highly sought after and people die/have died trying to take it or keep it.
“The 16th-century Incas quickly concealed a sacred manual containing the secrets behind their deadly fighting technique. But after centuries of careful safeguarding, the manual is again at risk of falling into the wrong hands, leaving its rightful guardian to battle the world’s greatest assassins to protect the ancient secrets within.”
This will involve some broken bones and bad guys. You sort of just let the narrative take care of itself and just enjoy the physicality of the performances and the charismatic star.
